  • Managing Exchange 2003 Attributes on a 2008 DC

    Hello,

I work for a non-profit who is trying to make best with what hardware and software that they have on virtually no budget. Currently, they have a 32-bit 2008 DC and would like to add Exchange to the mix. Since Exchange 2007 requires 64-bit, they are stuck unless (and here is the part where I need help) they add a 32-bit 2003 Server to the domain and run Exchange 2003.

If this is possible, will I be able to manage the Exchange tasks of the Active Directory users on the 2008 DC? Are they any downsides to doing this? Anyone running a setup like this currently that wouldn't mind giving me their thoughts?

Thanks in advance for your help and input!

Yes, if you do it correctly it's supposed to work (i.e. Exchange 2003 SP2 will work fine against a Windows Server 2008 AD).

Some details (look for Exchange 2003 issues):

Although technically, it is not possible to install the Exchange 2003 tools on Windows 2008, you can copy some files onto the server to add the appropiate tabs to Active Directory Users and Computers. It is not possible to run the Exchange System Manager though.

You're right. I answered the question about being able to have Ex2003 in a Win2008 AD domain, but you're right about the actual Ex mgmt tools and tabs.
