  • PPTP VPN - Resolving DNS

I setup a PPTP VPN dial in for users in an office with Windows 2008 Standard. I've set it up the same as I would if it was Windows 2003. Users can login fine except unlike Windows 2003 the users cannot resolve names of computers on their network.

They resolve if they use the FQDN (Example server01.domain.local). If they try to use just server01 the DNS attempts to look on the internet to resolve this hostname. Any ideas?

Do you have Trust in place between both forest?
If yes, does the Domain name for both forest is FQDN?
If No, and you have Domain 2003 using SLD name and the 2008 using FQDN and both domains connected across network, then configure a WINS server to resolve the NETBios Domain name over TCPIP.
