  • Help to Dynamic DNS in Windows Server 2008

    Hi. I'm new here and a little Newbi In this.

    I want to installe a Server 2008 but I need access to the server from out sight tru Dynamic DNS but I don't know have to set this up.

    Thanks for some good Step by step on server isue.

    There is not built-in dynamic DNS capability in Windows OSs. For that you need to install some sort of 3rd-party tool such as the one from NO-IP.

      Since Windows 2000 there has been support for Dynamic DNS (DDNS) per RFC 2136.

      How to enable or disable DNS updates in Windows 2000 and in Windows Server 2003
      http://support.microsoft.com/kb/246804
      This functionality is implemented in the DHCP Client service.

      Notwithstanding, it is true that if the DNS server you're needing to update is not a Microsoft DNS server then the easiest way to make this happen is with a third party utility, as mentioned.

        I think you are getting confused between Dynamic DNS records in a DNS zone which is the process of a Resource record in DNS allowing updates from either a client or a proxy (Which you describe) and the need to use a Dynamic DNS provider such as NO-IP that Daniel mentions or DynDNS in absence of a permanent public IP for access from the internet.
