  • Server 2008 Slow Connectivity Issues

I have a 2008 64 Bit Standard Edition Server. It is a dual quad core processor with 8gb memory.

Since 12-15-2008 I have been experiencing connectivity issues from the client computers. All computers are XP fully patched.

The clients can stay connected for about 30 minutes before they can no longer see the network shares on the server. If I reboot the server they are ok for about another 30 min.

I have disabled all non microsoft services, updated all firmware and drivers.

Has anyone else run into this issue?

      lol..... Ironically,

I had Symantec Endpoint Protection installed originally (6 months ago) and experienced this same thing. I uninstalled it then and everything has been fine up until monday. Its the strangest thing, everything is up for 30-45 minutes then things go south and I need to reboot the server.

Have a look at process explorer and see what is causing this.
You also might have a look at perfmon.

Hmmm I wouldn't go for a beta in my production environment (if I had any)

Re: Server 2008 Slow Connectivity Issues

I opened up a business down critical support case with Microsoft. after I spent 8 hours on the phone with them, they had me disable the following settings under the network card properties:

              IPv4 checksum offload
              ip4 large send offload
              receive side scaling

Its to early to tell if it is resolved or not, but I will keep everyone updated if it is resolved.

Well there goes that theory. The previous post did not help a single bit.

Re: Server 2008 Slow Connectivity Issues

Ok so Microsoft and I took a look at Netmon and they are stating that the issue has to do with a locked file and several people trying to access it at the same time.

I am sorry but for some reason I do not buy this because until Monday 12-15-2008 you mean to tell me that all the users never accessed the same file (a database file) at the same time? and since then every day all day long they have been accessing the same database?......na baby na....

Anyway, they came up with a "solution". This is a registry fix that turns off the file lock on server 2008 and will allow the users to access the files, which will prevent the issues that are above in the previous posts.

If this solution does indeed work, I will post the registry fix.

Here is the registry setting that resolved the issue:

                      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Lanman\Parameters

                      Max Mpx Ct 125

                      Max Work Items 2000

Re: Server 2008 Slow Connectivity Issues

Did this continue to resolve the issue? I am having a very similar issue with a SBS 2008 server. When looking in the registry for that key however there is LanmanServer and LanmanWorkstation and they both have a parameters subkey. Neither of them have any values like you indicated. Which one did you change the server or workstation?

                        Thanks

                          Ditto that....

I have windows 2008 std edt and there is LanmanServer and LanmanWorkstation in the registry. They both have a parameters subkey. Neither of them have any values like you indicated.

                          any updates to this problem?
