  • Need to install loopback adapter on a Server Core installation

Does anyone know how to install the MS Loopback Adapter on a Server 2008 Core x64 installation?

devcon.exe is not compatible and I know of no other way to install it from the command line.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here is how you add a loopback adapter on Windows 2008 Core:

Find a 2003 server installation disk and navigate to: \SUPPORT\TOOLS\SUPPORT.CAB and extract Devcon.exe.

For a 32 bit version you might be able to use the downloadable version of devcon, but for a 2008 x64 installation you definitely need to use the file from support.cab.

Then on the command line type:

    devcon.exe install c:\windows\inf\netloop.inf *MSLOOP

Hi Winfred, thanks for the response.

I extracted devcon.eve from the 2003 R2 x86 disc. I tried running the command and got an error devcon.exe failed.

Do I need the x64 version of 2003?
