  • Change computer name on server 2008

    Hello,
I have forgotten to change the computer name of my server 2008, after installation.
at this moment there is a AD, DHCP and WD running on it.
Can I change de name the normal way, of must I use a differentname?

    Thanks !

    What's "WD"?

Since the server is a DC I would consider renaming it, but although I haven't done it personally on any Win2008 production DCs, I can only *assume* that it's just like doing it on a Win2003 DC.

      Renaming is Easy.

      Build a tempory AD server,
Give it 24 hours to settle in.
Demote incorrectly named machine. Then change name.
Then DCPROMO it back to a DC.

Worked a treat for me. Was nice and hassle free.
My Win 2008 Enterprise also will work for 30 days before a license key needs to be enterd so the temperoy machine wasnt evean activated.

No need for all that, since 2003 you've been able to rename a DC.
