  • Blue Screen by Ending wininit.exe Process – Server 2008 and Vista

Using Task Manager to end the wininit.exe process (run by the SYSTEM account) will flip the machine into a blue screen with a Stop: error of 0xF4.
XP protects its critical system processes by responding with a message: “Unable to Terminate Process. This is a critical system process. Task Manager cannot end this process.”
Web search indicated it is a known issue but could not find an explanation to why this is possible. XP is good enough to protect itself; why Vista and Server 2008 are not designed to do the same?
