  • Error when calling IE from a Scheduled Task

    Hi Everyone-

I am having the following problem on a standalone Windows 2008 (64-Bit) server. The programmer at our company wants a ASP script to kick off every morning to take care of some tasks.

He setup a batch file that calls IE using the following:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" http://website

If I run it from Task Manager with the option Run only when user is logged On it runs correctly.

If it is changed to Run whether user is logged on or not it runs but IE crashes with the following problem:

I have tried taking IE out of protected mode after seeing someone post a similar error with IEuser but it didnt help.

The user account used is a local administrator. Any ideas or directions to look in would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Dave

Just a follow up to this question. I took IE out of the equation and did the same setup using wget.exe and a del statement. Worked like a charm!

    Thanks for looking!

It could have to do with how Windows handles creation of 32bit processes from 64bit process. I've been bitten by it in the past. Does the same happen on 32bit platform ?

I was suspecting that also. When I get some time today, I will fire up a 32-bit version and see if it has the same issue.

        Thanks!

          If that's the case, running

          C:\Windows\SysWOW64\cmd.exe /c thirty_two_bit.bat

          should fix the issue.
          Cheers,

          Rick

Thanks for responding. I tried this and got the same error as before.

I also tried setting this up on my 32-bit test machine and it still had an issue, but it wasnt the same error, it just seemed to hang without doing anything. If I started the batch from a cmd prompt it was fine though. I will have to look into that a bit more when I get time.
