    can "2000 Professional" join a 2008 domain? where can i find this info?

    Yes it can, but i believe it has to be on SP3.

        spoke to microsoft pre-sales support about this. answer: yes, but group policies introduced by AD in server 2008 will not work. older policies will. problem would only be that newer GPOs would not work on 2000 machines (effecting 2000 pro and server)

          When you say

          Do you mean "old GPO settings will work, but new GPO settings don't"? That is how things have worked ever since the upgrade from Win2000 to Win2003 to Win2003R2 to Win2008.

            He is probably talking about GPO Preferences that do not have an extension for 2000 (only for XP/2003)
