  • add windows 2008 to existing 2003 domain

    Hi all,

I have 2 windows 2003 domain controllers and I want to upgrade them to windows server 2008. What is correct sollution? Add new DC on windows 2008 to existing 2 DC with 2003, transfer FSMO roles and uninstall 2003? What happend with existing GPO settings if I will join 2008 DC to my network?

    Thanks
    Thanks

You will need to update the schema using ADPREP before you can add Windows 2003 DC server to an existing Windows 2003 domain.

What did you say when you first added your Win2003/XP machines to that old Win2000 domain? Did you complain then too?

Win2008/Vista have many new settings in the GPO. So? If you want to use these settings, you need a Win2008/Vista machine. If you don't want to use them, that's fine. All the good old Win2000/2003/XP GPO settings will still work for you.

As for GPO Preferences - Look at Windows Update, there's an update for XP/2003 just for that.
