  • help/question about windows 2000 server

ok here is the setup I have a lynksys cable/dsl router, that goes with a patch cable to a hub,(where all 7 other users are connected to it), 1 windows server (2000) connected to the hub as well, and I have 7 end users nodes (variety of o/s'es) from xp to 98se. We moved to another location and I resetup the server., I left AD intact since the same users would be replugged in. Ok here is my issue everyone can map to the server and can see the server and its files. I can ping everyone from the server and i can ping the server, from every node (7). Internet acess works and all is good , however on the server when I try to browse to "see" the people in the "workgroup", (which is what everyone is in btw), I get the unable to "browse" the network, or even using "computers near me" dont work ,so obviously it is a dns problem correct?

Since there is one 98se in the network
(presidents believe it or not), do I need to enable tcp/over netbios?
any suggestions? including tcp ip settings?
    Thanks guys

    check dns, wins
also see that you have master browser
also check that the clients are using hybrid node

Do I check this on the server side (dns, hybrid) or each computer? If so where is it?

Also is master browser a server snapin? I just realized today that this server does not have any service packs installed. Do you suppose I could install sp4, or are there any dangers, regarding upgrades.

      Thank you for the reply,

Re: help/question about windows 2000 server

Check that you have a well configured dns and wins on the server http://www.petri.com/install_and_con...dns_server.htm
        http://support.microsoft.com/search/...mDays=&InCC=on
check that computer browser service is running on the server.
check that the clients are configured to work in the right dns and wins
also run ipconfig /all on the clients and check the node type, it should be hybrid
        Good Luck
