  • 2 DCs Primary and Secondary logon

    Im running 2x win2k3 domain controlers one for backup when master dc fails. On both dcs is GlobalCatalog enabled. ive just run a test and disconnected primary dc and logged on the domain and it worked, only it was very slow how can this be ?

    did you also setup the DNS on both the machines?

      As Dumber has said DNS needs to be setup on both machines.

      You also need to point each machine at its own IP address first for DNS resolution.

        leave the secondary dns field empty?

          I usually set them to

          Primary DNS on both servers is its own DNS server.

          Secondary DNS is set to the other server.

          Example

          Server 1's IP is 192.168.1.1
          Server 2's IP is 192.168.1.2

          Server 1's DNS will be

          Primary 192.168.1.1
          secondary 192.168.1.2

          Server 2's DNS will be

          Primary 192.168.1.2
          Secondary 192.168.1.1
