  • Folder redirection errors

    Greetings!

    I have a small AD network with 4 servers and I'm using folder redirection via a policy to the user's home folder. This works great for all the existing client logins however I've created 4 new user accounts and they are all getting the same errors when attempting Folder Redirection;

    [15596] Folder Redirection
    Type: ERROR
    Computer: PC08
    Time: 7/3/2006 8:45:06 AM ID: 112
    User: DOMAIN\xxxxxx
    Failed to perform redirection of folder My Documents.

    The files for the redirected folder could not be moved to the new location.

    The folder is configured to be redirected to <\\%HOMESHAREThe security descriptor structure is invalid.

    HOMEPATH%>. Files were being moved from <C:\Documents and Settings\xxxxxx\My Documents> to <\\server01\users\xxxxxx>.

    The following error occurred while copying <C:\Documents and Settings\xxxxxx\My Documents\Word Document.doc> to <\\server01\users\xxxxxx\Word Document.doc>:

    The security descriptor structure is invalid.

    I verified rights to the home folder and those new accounts have the exact same rights as accounts created before I took over this position. This only happens with newly created accounts. The only item that comes to mind is that these 4 new accounts the folder was created by me via Explorer. Not by the MMC under profile. However, I did make certain that the rights were identical on these new home folders compared to older user account folders.

    To me it sounds like I'm missing something obviously rights related. Any clues on what might be happening here?

      Re: Folder redirection errors

      Actually I performed the exact same Google search and tried all those steps mentioned to no avail. The second link you supplied I actually found about 30 seconds after my initial post here.

      Been searching for about 8 hours and finding tons of links but I can't believe that after trying all the steps mentioned with my searching that *none* of them worked.

      One item I haven't tried as of yet is to manually copy the contents of My Documents share on the server. I'll obviously will do this under the users login id.

        Re: Folder redirection errors

        Manually copying the data will not resolve the issue.
        "The security descriptor structure is invalid" means that the system is trying to access or move a specific file and its failing.
        You can enable folder redirection logging to see which file its failing to access.

        ====
        HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Diagnostics

        Set: FdeployDebugLevel = Reg_DWORD 0x0f

        A log file, Fdeploy.log, is created and stored in the %windir%\debug\usermode\ folder.
        ====

        As per your description, did you manually create the source or the destination folder?
        Delete the destination folder and let folder redirection extension create them, let me know if this help
