  • WSUS reinstallation - can i import old updates and patches somehow

I had wsus server that was working alright until a nasty power breakdown occurred.
The result was that wsus database went corrupted and wsus console was out of reach…
I checked at technet forums what my options are, and found out that it will be a lot easier to reinstall wsus from the beginning than to bother with repairing corrupted database.

So I did. I run installation package, and it removed previous version of wsus from the system. I did not choose the option to remove downloaded updates and patches

    The result:
my brand new installed wsus is completely empty (as expected after all…)

    question:
can I, somehow, import updates and patches I had before the breakdown, or I have to synchronize the server like I never had it on the system.

SUS approvals were contained in a file called history-approve.xml

Unfortunatley for you, WSUS approvals are all kept in the MSDE or SQL database. If you lost the database, you lost your approval list and must start from scratch.

    Sorry.

      thanx for the reply, anyway.

unfortunatelly for me, i had to rebuild it from the scratch.

once again, i realized the importance of backup procedure...
