  • Unable to access web page by url

I have created several virtual directories in IIS 6.0... I am able to open these pages using a url (http://domianname.com/webpage) only when I local to the server... What I mean by this is I am able to use the url when I am in the same location as the server (such as the server is located in NJ office and I am accessing the url from a computer in NJ office)... I am unble to access this url from a computer in NY office (office are linked via VPN) but I am able to access this web page from NY when I type in the http://servername/webpage...

What error message is returned in the web browser? 404 or 403?

From a computer in NJ, ping domainname.com and post the results here.

From a computer in NY, ping domainname.com and post the results here.

From a computer in NY, ping servername and post the results here.

What type of authentication is the virtual directory/website set up to use? Anonymous? Basic (clear text)?, Integrated Windows? Digest?

Does your IIS server make use of host header addresses?

      The error is 404

From a computer in NJ, ping domainname.com and post the results here
      ping domainname.com results 192.168.15.31

From a computer in NY, ping domainname.com and post the results here.
      ping domainname.com results 192.168.14.31

From a computer in NY, ping servername and post the results here.
      ping servname results 192.168.15.31

      Anonymous

Not Sure where to check for this

Note: both NY & NJ servers are DC, GC and DNS...

Re: Unable to access web page by url

I think you'll need to add an A record to DNS that points the http://domianname.com/webpage to the IP address of the server

Investigate why NJ and NY users resolve a different IP address for the FQDN domainname.com. Is the web server multihomed? Are both IP addresses assigned to the web server? The web server is not answering HTML get requests on the 192.168.14.31 NIC interface. This could be because the website is configured to only answer on the 192.168.15.31 NIC interface.

            This should be the fix.
