I'll bet you've picked up a worm from somewhere.

Look on your machine for the "hosts" file. It should be somewhere like "C:\Windows\system32\etc", but its place varies by operating system.

The last line in the file should read "127.0.0.1 localhosts", with nothing after that line. If there are any other entries (I'm betting you'll see "127.0.0.1 www.symantec.com" and all the others that you can't find will also be there), delete all of them UP TO the "local hosts" line. DON'T delete the line with "127.0.0.1 localhosts" - you need it! It must be the last line in the file.

Then start looking for the worm. I'm guessing it's probably one of those like Welchia or Gaobot, which hide inside other innocent program names, like NWIZ.EXE...

    Good hunting!

      %windir%\system32\drivers\etc.
so far as i know, it doesn't vary at nt4.0 and up

after that, keep a virusscan up to date and install the latest patches.

you can use something like stinger from mcafee to scan you're system quickly
