  • Using Outlook in Server 2003

    Hi all,

I have a workstation with Win 2003 Server 64bit edition and I'm trying to get Outllook to work on it. Now I have another machine on the same network with XP Pro and Outlook works fine. Both machines have identical network settings.

When I try to Check Name it comes up with the message "Outllok could not logon. Check to make sure your connected to the network" Now I know I'm connected coz I get web access fine.

I have looked at doing connection over HTTP and this would work if our network administrator would enable this on Exchange 2003.

I can't believe you cant do this as SQL 2000 requires a MAPI account for use with SQL mail.

Was wondering if some service or security policy has an option to enable this?

    Any ideas guys??

    Do you use Outlook 2003?
The SQL that you use run on the Win 2003 64bit? Is the SQL is 32 bit or 64 bit?

Also, for SQL emails please consider to use:

Re: Using Outlook in Server 2003

Yes I have Office 2003 installed with service pack 2.

The thing is I have a team of developers using Microsoft Content Manager Server and this requires Win2003 server as an O/S. They arent too happy that they cant get email access!!!!

I have done countless searches and the only way seems to be http over RPC which as I said cant be enabled becaus my Network Administrator is an idiot and doesnt understand it!!!

We do have Citrix access to our email (via a remote desktop connection) but would like thick-client access direct to the exchange server!!!

All of this can be acheived on winXP so I'm assuming Win2003 is blocking something!!

Re: Using Outlook in Server 2003

I installed in the past Office 2003 on Vista 64 bit and its work so I guess that it should works (There no offical referance if installing office 32 bit on Windows 64 bit should works).

        Please review:

And check if there no firewall issues.

There is no good reason for installing Outlook on a server. All the SQL server needs is a MAPI profile which can be created without installing Outlook:
