  • Assigning IP address based on department

Hi all, I'm hoping someone can help me get on the right path, basically what I am trying to accomplish is this:

I would like to have it set so that there is a seperate DHCP scope for each department (sales etc) and if a user from the sales department were to sign in from ANY pc, it will automatically lease an ip address from the scope for the sales users. IE if the sales user was to bring their laptop in from home and sign onto the network, they would be given an ip address from the sales scope.

Reasoning would be to make it easier to apply ACL's etc. Any thoughts?

I don't see any logic in your reasoning. What do IPs have to do with ACLs?

As for the DHCP, you can't do that based on a departament. You can use USER CLASS options, but that's for the DHCP options, not for the IP addresses.

How about using reservations? That will let you reserve IPs based upon MAC addresses. Will that do?

We are using Reservations based on MAC Address of the workstations. Thats the easiest way for us to manage IP Address.
