  • Web site access with SSL

I hope the explanation of this problem makes sense. I have a 2003 Server and Exchange 2003 installed. I want to get OWA working with SSL and I have created my own certificate on the machine and installed it using the instructions on this site. Unfortunately when I try to access any of the sites on the server it just says that the page cannot be displayed. If I turn off the setting on the default web site that says it requires SSL to be used then I can access the sites fine. I am not trying to access the sites from outside, this is actually on the server itself I get this problem. I am wondering whether I have done something wrong when creating the certificate - when I look at the certificate it says it was issued by 'test.testdomain.co.uk' ('test' being the machine name & 'testdomain' being the domain) and was issued to 'test.testdomain.co.uk. I then try to access the site by entering https://test/certsrv (for example) and it fails. I have tried a few differnt thinsg to fix this but have had no luck so was hoping someone could help.

    Thanks

Re: Web site access with SSL

Why are you trying to access OWA by using https://test/certsrv ?

/certsrv is the web management site for your local CA, and if I remember correctly does not come with a certificate pre-installed and as such will not be accessible via HTTPS.

    Try https://test/exchange

Also make sure that SSL is running on 443 within IIS. If this all looks OK then try changing the port number to 8443 and try accessing OWA via https://test:8443/exchange

Let us know how you get on.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to access OWA by going to https://test/certsrv I just put that as an example of one of the sites that I have been trying to access. I have tried https://test/exchange and get the same problem. SSL was running on port 443 and I tried changing it to port 8443 but, although it takes longer to do it, it still comes back saying the page cannot be found.

Re: Web site access with SSL

Thanks. Unfortunately I have tried following those instructions as well as the instructions on this site with no success. Have done it two or three times now but evertime I try to access using SSL it says the page cannot be found. Could it be a problem with the certificate? I wasn;t oo sure of what common name to give so I used 'test.testdomain.co.uk'

I don't think so, if the certificate comman name is not mach the FQDN of your site, you will get the security warrning message., but the owa will work.

Re: Web site access with SSL

I am at a loss then. I have actually just re-installed it all and tried again and get the same problem. The only difference I can see between what I have done and what the article at http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/..._OWA_2003.html says, is that when I installed the certificate it says that it was issued to Administrator rather than to common name i had put in.

                Hello,

I came back with an update. If you still didn't solved your issue, maybe it will help you.
Today, I faced with similar situation.
OWA worked with http, but didn't with https.
                The problem was the certificate.
Please see my screen captures. The first one is the good cert., the second is the wrong.
