  • can ping but can't access

    Hi,

Very strange. I have 2 Server installed W2K3 Standard SP1. Sometimes, Server1 could ping Server2 but couldn't access as follow \\Server2, on Server2, could ping and access Server1 without problem ( use domain user which is member of Server1 and Server2 Admin group ). Both Firwall & Antivirus were disabled on Server2.

Have you know some reasons cause this ?

    Thanks,

Are they both on the same Domain?
Are they connecting by switch, router (Internet VPN)?
    1 1 was a racehorse.
    2 2 was 1 2.
    1 1 1 1 race 1 day,
    2 2 1 1 2

Yes, they're in the same domain, connected by switch. Both of them use W2K3 St SP1 with newest update. when I use net view command, I got the error : System error 53 has occured.

Re: can ping but can't access

Try to access server2 on ip --> for example \\192.168.1.2
Sometimes it doesn't work on name level (just windows ).

If you can access the server on ip level, the problem is then maybe someting with the dns --> ipconfig /flushdns.

            Hope this solves your problem.

Certainly I tried to use IP instead of computer name. But the same error. Is there any Policy causes this ?

check your DNS nslookup and try to follow up from there. Does the server has got Static Ip, if yes, then. Do you have DHCp Server configured. May be you exclusion Ip's does not exclude the Server2 ip address.

Work around first with the DNS and check weather it gives you good static or not. Then work on the ip settings.

Hi. Thanks so much for all replies.

Unfortunately, I don't have more time to fix this error because it's urgent. I had to reinstall Windows and it's OK now.

                  Thanks again.
