    hi All,

Recently, my server (Windows 2003) has started rebooting itself intermittently. I have looked at almost everything and used the Smart Array Drive Diagnosis to run tests on Hard Drives and they are fine. The Smart Array Controller is also fine. I also had an IT Vendor to take a look at the server and they could not find anything, what a waste. Attachment is the Crash history. I need some hint to point me to the right direction here. Thanks in advance.

Those errors are usually relaed to impending disk issues.

Without reading the actual dump files though it is hard to say.

Start by running a chkdsk on the drive, with the relevant switches.

    Then do a sfc /scannow

The error codes are all related to a core OS component crashing (STOP 0x000000F4) or memory being corrupted during a paging operation (STOP 0x00000077 and STOP 0x0000007a). The latter two could be caused by a defective disk controller, but the 0x000000F4 STOP code is more likely to be a memory issue.

Since you mentioned a Smart Array controller, I'm guessing this is a HP ProLiant server? AFAIK, they all use ECC memory, so a memory error should have been detected (and possibly corrected) by the chipset. As there's no mention of any ECC errors or memory-related NMIs in the logs, the RAM is probably fine. That leaves the motherboard and the storage subsystem.

Since you're running Windows Server 2003, I'm guessing the server is quite old? Is the Smart Array controller equipped with a Battery-Backed Cache (BBC) module and if so, has the battery or the module even been replaced?

Ser Olmy, Thank you. No, neither one has been replaced. How do I check on its status ?

            Ser Olmy,

It is a HP Proliant DL380 G5. I just open up my server and it is not equipped with a battery-backed cache. Any other suggestions ?

does the HP IML report anything?
try running memtest (you'll need to take the server down to do this..)
have you already run sfc /scannow and chkdsk as recommended?

if it's still being troublesome, get a HP Carepack, then log a ticket with HP.
Or, let it limp along while you upgrade the platform.

              it might be overheating too..

Have you tried replacing the memory completely?

                  hi all,

My server still reboots itself. I logged in today, as I was looking at the event logs, the server suddenly rebooted itself. I managed to take a snapshot of the message prior to it restarting. is it a virus ? does anybody know what this is about ?

                  Thank you
