  • Migrating secondary AD to become Primary

I have primary domain controller with DNS server enabled. I have created secondary AD and DNS server enabled. It copies everything from primary domain controller. Now the primary server physical server start miss behaving. I would like to promote secondary AD/DNS to become primary server AD/DNS. I am using windows 2003. Please help me with step by step procedure on how to do it without mistake.

    Appreciate Petri and team.

I'm not sure this would help in these circumstances.

      OP,

Can you please elaborate on what the issues are.

What are the results of a DCDIAG?

What are the actual issues you are having?

What are the results of a netdiag?

Re: Migrating secondary AD to become Primary

Make sure the new server is hosting the Global Catalog and that replication is working properly, then move the FSMO roles to the new DC. Your new server will the be as "primary" as it needs to be, and you can safely demote the old server or remove it altogether.

(Why are people still talking about "primary domain controllers" in 2014? They ceased to exist in Windows 2000.)

What is the misbehaving problem on the first DC?
If DCGIAG doesn't fix the problem,

            Transferring FSMO Roles

            and if that doesn't work,

            Seizing FSMO Roles
            1 1 was a racehorse.
            2 2 was 1 2.
            1 1 1 1 race 1 day,
            2 2 1 1 2
