  • server 2003 ad and dns wizard?

    thanks for your reply
i'm as puzzled as you are, hence my posting here.
Just in the beginning of the process, it stated what should be carried out on the server, and from what i recollect it looked like this:
    "the wizard will now install:
    DNS
    Active Directory
    DHCP (if needed)
    RAS / NAT"
and one more item i cant recollect

i remember the DHCP (if needed) statement since i was curious if it would detect my current dhcp...

Unless something's changed since I last used it, you don't add roles in Computer Management in Server 2003. If you want to turn that machine into a domain controller, run dcpromo from a command prompt.

Now, if I am mistaken and you can add roles, you would want to add the Active Directory Domain Services role, which installs AD and allows you to configure AD integrated DNS.

Neither does anything for RAS or DHCP, though, so I'm not sure what you saw.

i clearly remember the DHCP (if needed) because i was a bit curious if it would detect the already present dhcp...

Well, hopefully someone has a solution, because I'd like to know, too.

I've installed 2003 so many times its not funny and i cannot think of the wizard you are talking about.

Just so we are clear is this 2003 or 2003 R2?

I'm running an install at the moment to see if i can replicate and will advise.

Install done and the only wizard is the Manage Server wizard.
