  • problem installing exchange 2003 on server 2003

I am trying to install exchange 2003 on server 2003 sp2.
This is just being done in a test environment.

I have followed exchange server deployment tools and successfully got to the last step (actually installing exchange 2003).
When it gets to the component selection page, I get the follow error when I try and do a typical install:

the component "Microsoft exchange messaging and collaboration services" cannot be assigned the action "install" because: - setup has detected that ASP .Net v1.1 or above has not been enabled. This component is required...

When I look in IIS, web service extensions, I see that Active Server Pages is present and also when I look in ASP tab for default website properties, I see version 2.0.50727 listed.

I have a vague memory that this newer version may be part of the problem but cant remember the fix? Anyone had this issue before?

If memory serves me I'm pretty sure you have to install ASP.NET v1.1 from Add/Remove Windows Components. It should be listed under Application Server.

v1.1 and v2 can both be installed IIRC.

Thanks. I did follow the guide that came with the deployment tools, and adding asp from add/remove components was in there.
      Maybe I missed a step.

I'll try in the morning and then report back.

Do you have .NET framworks installed? That is where the ASP.NET libraries come from.

^^ I did do all updates before I started the exchange install, so yes, frameworks are probably on there as well.

.NET Frameworks isn't part of Windows Updates. You'll need to go to Microsoft Update and do a custom install. Make sure you select .Net Frameworks. I think 3.5 includes 2.0.

I just checked, and sure enough, I had not ticked the "ASP.NET" option in add/remove windows components.
even though I was SURE that I had!

              All working now.
              Thanks guys!!
