    we have windows 2003 server which got roles for DNS,AD, and is domain controller,also got other windows 2003 server where it act as data server and no roles are specified ..but i want that it should be configured as backup so that if my main server fails company work will not stop and it will run in smooth way without affecting users till main server getss up ...how do i do it kindly help also if i can do it using vmware on virtual machine with same 2003 server on it but main machine got XP 64bit as os....kindly suggest... on both thanks in advance

    So you have both servers running as VMs on a WinXP client?

    First fix would be to move them to some more appropriate hardware.

    On the server side only:
    Configure the second server as an Additional DC / DNS server (DNS replicated via AD) and DHCP server (split scope)
    For files, look into DFS replication, although that was a bit ropey on Server 2003.
