  • win server 2003 and win98 clients

i have a problem and i do not know how i can solve it.
    this is my network:
2 win server 2003 ES both DC
some WinXp client and some Win98se client

up to some days ago all work good but i have to update an application on one of the 2 server
at the same time i have update the application and apply a patch to OS.

on the start all work good but when i have tried to logon from Win98 client the updated server do not allow the client to logon to the domain or map network drive.
but i can access to others services on the same server like intranet ect..
only the second server allow me to logon on the domain
so the updated server do not authenticate the client, the second server allow the client to logon to domain
on the event viewer i can not find anything about the problem

ofcourse if the clients is winXP base system no problem all work good, i can logon to the domain, both servers allow the clients to connect..... no one problem

i can only suppose that the application update have change client authentication to accept only WinXP/2000 client

i have checked the policy but i have not found something wrong

i have checked microsoft web site so i have tried with dsclient, NTLM2 ect. on win98 clients .... nothing to do

in the end i do not understend why one of my DC server do NOT accept win98 client connection and the other one accept the connection.

    someone could help me??
    thank you

      yes ofcourse,

anyway i have solved by myself
i think something wrong was happened in the update operation.
i have changed this policies keys in "domain controller group policies"

Microsoft Network Server: digitally sign communications (always)
Microsoft Network Server: digitally sign communications (if client agrees)

      from enable to disable
      and win98 client logon successfully.

so in the end i have tried to restore the original setting and win98 client still logon successfully .....
i think something like a reset

      thak you
