  • Root CA server died. Can I recover somehow?

We had our root CA die recently, it will no longer boot into windows server 2003. I am able to view the file system boot up into linux though. Is there any way to recover the files and keys needed to do a successful restore of the root CA? If so what files and keys do I need, where are they, and what is the procedure for restoring. The old server was running Windows 2003, and I really need some help!!!

    Do you have backups?

You could try a repair install as this should preserve files and settings

Not with valid backups or a backup from the private key of the root CA.
Repair might help as suggested by Ossian but still it might be tough or bad luck.

If you don't have backups and the repair doesn't work then you gonna need to rebuild your CA environment.

About the not booting, are you sure it's not a hardware issue?

May be worth cold cloning into a VM if that's a possibility?
        cheers
