  • Windows XP Image for different hardware

Does anyone know how to make an image for one computer that will work for any computer with different hardware? I have been looking for an easy way to do it but can't seem to find anything...
    Thanks in advance

Try using livestate from symantec, it will do it. make sure you get the suite that has the restore anywhere option. you have to buy in packs of 10 though so i dont know if thats what you wanna do.

Personally i wouldn't create one single image for each machine. You could create a disk that boots and has all the drivers you require on it.

There probably will be a way to do it that i haven't come across

I would look into RIS. If setup correctly it can cope with many different hardware types but not HAL types.

Re: Windows XP Image for different hardware

Actually if I am thinking straight here and know what you are asking I believe you may be looking for this. I work for a large company and we have many different systems but most if not all have the same software and OS in common but contain different hardware.

Look into this. Its a little expensive but if your company does a lot of work with imaging it will pay off...

I dont think so. It is difficult to do. I remember seeing a website that told you how to make an image that would work with different hardware types - i tried it and it didnt work.

there is in sysprep more then one option... i always use reseal and then i make the image.

did some one try with the other options to deploy on diffrent hardware?
