    Folks
Trying to demote a Server 2003 standard server, it has no FSMOs and when I tried to run DCPROMO on it I get the error below

File Replication Service: The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion

The FRS is not started and if I try to start it from the services manager it gives the same error. I have checked the 2 dependency services and they are both running.

    Any ideas ?

I have just noticed that the Com+ event system service is missing.

saw that article, would prefer if I could get the server back running and do a standard dcpromo if possible. I am going to try a windows repair and if that fails it looks like i will have to force it

I wouldn't bother personally, so long as you have other DCs. I've used that procedure many times, so long as you do a metadata cleanup afterwards everything will be fine.
