  • Add windows Server to win2003 Domain

    Hi All

    I need to check something

At our HQ we have two dc 192.168.1/24 Network, At another site I have a server 192.168.3.0/25 This is a windows server 2008r2

On the dc on the 192.168.1.0/24 Network

    We have run adprep /forestprep
    then adprep /domain /gpprep

    update ok,

The win server 2008 is on workgroup at the moment, do i just run dcpromo then connect it to the 192.168.1.0/24 network, Then add the sever as a print/file server giving out dns and dchp to the 192.168.3.0/25 network? I ask this because I came across something on netometer.com in step 2 add the win server 2008 to the domain then add the active direcorty DS role and configaure it as an additional domain controller?

    Cheers

Re: Add windows Serer to win2003 Domain

it is not clear if you want the new server to be a DC or just a member server
if it is to be a DC, do:
    1) Establish VPN from 3.0 to 1.0 network
    2) Confirm 2008R2 box can ping DC in main site by netbios and fqdn
    3) Join to domain (may need to use fqdn of domain to be able to join
    4) reboot etc.
    5) install ADDS role
    6) repeat 2
    7) DCPROMO, select option to add DNS
    add DHCP and other roles

If "just" a member server, skip steps 5-7
