  • windows 7 Ultimate not connecting with windows 2003 AD

    Hi,

Whenever I try to connect Windows 7 Ultimate with Windows 2003 AD, it shows below error.

"An attempt to resolve the DNS name of a damain controller in the domain being joined has failed. Please verify this client is configured to reach a DNS server that can resolve DNS names in the target domain."

    Any idea.

Is it getting the IP address that will allow it to resolve the domain name??

Try adding the FQDN of your network and see if that will allow it to join.

                Is firewall off on both?

What (exactly) do you get on the client when you
                PING cmsgserver-01
                and
                PING cmsgserver-01.cmsg.cmsgserver
                and
                PING 192.168.1.123

Re: windows 7 Ultimate not connecting with windows 2003 AD

Please edit the IP addresses you are using for DNS resolution.

Your primary IP address should be your actual server address, not the 127.0.0.1 address.

Your secondary should be a second internal server if you have one.

Configure forwarders and add the external address to that.

                  DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 127.0.0.1 Should be 192.168.1.123

202.56.215.55 Should be in the forwarders tab in DNS.
Why are you using static IP addresses?? Would be so much easier using DHCP for clients.

Add the FQDN to the network card DNS settings as well.

Got caught by that as well. I think you are looking at the Server's DNS settings. The one above gives the DNS as the IP for the Server.

Yeah its on the server but i personally hate using the 127 address in my DNS settings on any machine.

What i'm thinking is that the server is not resolving quickly enough and his system is checking on an external DNS server which of couerse will not resolve the domain name properly.
