MBR partitions have a 2 TB limit. Use GPT when partitioning the drives and you should be able to use the full size.

Do you have the latest service pack installed? If not then update and then see if you can use more than 2TB.

With 2003 sp1 they've expanded the size support up to 18 exabytes with only 256 TB supported by NTFS.

I am using Service Pack 2 . Is there any customization for the allocation unit size.

Re: Problem Formatting Dynamic Drive 18 Tera size

You shouldn't need to do anything special with the allocation size.

Can you try and create a new primary partition and size it larger than 2TB?

Can you verify that you're using GPT? (Go to the properties of the disk and click on the Volume tab and see what partition style is listed)

It is work when i change the allocation unit size to 64 k.

Did you change the defaults then?

The 8k which is the default cluster size for that volume size should be good enough.with a 64 k cluster you are going to waste disk space unnecessarily.

many years ago I had a 850MB (the MB is not a typo) HDD. A friend had a 1.6GB HDD. Both were formatted under FAT16. My Cluster size was 16K and his was 64K. I had about 100MB of Slack Space on the 850MB drive whereas he had 700MB Slack Space on the 1.6GB one. That was nearly half his drive wasted due to Slack Space.

It is worth looking at trying the 8K Default that L4ndy has suggested.

I try the default and then try each allocation unit size the only one work the 64 k.

i will try to do it again.
