    what does he mean by "objects" ? if he means users, computers, groups etc, Use the query tool in active directory users and computers. You can search for pretty much everything you want and get counts.

    below is good article on the query tool

        Not even I understand that question.

        Do you understand what an object is? It can be confusing but it is critical that you do know what it is so can you explain it to us? Ta.
        1 1 was a racehorse.
        2 2 was 1 2.

          Re: Number of AD Objects

          There is a well known military saying "nothing is more dangerous than a 2nd Lieutenant with a map". Clearly Managers and Training Courses are a similar combination....

          Obviously each user and computer is an AD object, as are groups and contact objects
          So is each OU in AD, each DNS record, Domain DFS targets, and a lot of hidden objects you can view with ADSIEDIT
          If you have Exchange, there are a "few" more
          If you run CSVDE -f <filename.csv> you can output a list (not necessarily full) to an Excel file and get a count, but please don't ask what it all means....

          I have 56 users and 733 AD objects in my domain!

            Re: Number of AD Objects

            An object is a single entity, I thought

            user = 1
            computer = 1
            printer = 1
            group = 1
            Manchester ou
            Users ou
            computers ou
            Printers ou
            Groups OU

            I have say 10 users and 10 computers 1 Printer 3 Groups = 24
            I have 10 sites locations york-bristol
            I also also deptmwnt OU
            Sales
            Sales ou users
            Sales ou Computers
            Sales ou Printers
            Sales OU Groups

            He just want to know the total AD objects in the AD

                  Have you had a look through the CSV to see what counts as an "object"?

                    Fair enough. It was the wording of that question/sentence that gave me doubts. No offence intended.
