  • WDS ERROR-tried every single page for an answer

    I dont know what to do anymore. It seems that my WDS stoped working after just about 6 months. I have not made any change to the configuration. I just added more install images (not boot imgaes)
    What is happening now is:
    The PXE client getes a valid IP address from the WDS but it fails to pass the next stage. It stops with an error PXE-E32 TFTP Timeout.
    The environment is simple.
    DHCP located on the DC (Windows 2003)
    WDS on a separate PC joined to teh domain (windows 2003)
    DHCP has no option set (66 or 67) WDS firewall is off.

        hi,

        you have to realise.. we're not employees - we provide our time freely, but when available (for instnace, I'm finding I've only got about 45 minutes or so early in the mornings at the moment.)

        So, sometimes it takes a while until someone who can help comes along. sometimes, noone does know.

        have you run any sort of traffic analysis, wireshark etc, to see what's happening ? (stick a hub [not a switch] in front of the computer, then put a laptop with wireshark in the hub as well, and capture that segment)

          I meant no offense to anyone here and definitely the amount of information that petri.co has been given to me for years is tremendous, in fact it was so good that until now I really did not had to create an account to post questions. My apologies.
          I did tried the same scenario on separate machines (that re in separate switch) and went one step fwd.
          I stopped the service on that ads box (03 server) and tried the wds 08 server
          Same result.

            is there anyone else involved in the administration of your infrastructure.. for instance, is there a network team?
            could they have configured ACLs somewhere, or changed something within the routing fabric.. ?

              Does your client start the process of loading the image after it PXE boots???

              Exactly what happens during the boot process???

                As already mentioned, please give people a chance to answer. If just over a day is not an acceptable response time, please PAY Microsoft to help you out
                WDS is specialist enough we do not have as many experts as some other topics, so most prefer not to post a pile of garbage, but wait for someone who does know more about it.

                If you really read all 19,800 pages on the subject, they must have given you some things to try.

                  I'm with tehcamel on this one, any time I've seen TFTP errors in WDS it's because there have been changes made to ACLs on the switches.
