  • PCs losing access to network shares

Hope someone can shed some light on this matter.

We have a Windows 2003 Server (AD, DNS) and a mix of clients 98SE, 2K Workstation and XP Pro. All clients are successfully connecting to the domain but we have an issue with the 98SE PCs since we enabled the Account lockout policy (3 attempts and then locked until Admin unlocks) and also enabled password complexity.

The issue is this: at some point in the day some, but not all, of the clients can see their mapped network drives in Windows Explorer but when they try to access it they get the message "access to this resource is denied" or a message with similar meaning. No amount of rebooting and attempting to login is succesful. Checking the individual account it transpires that the account is now locked and requires Admin to unlock it.

If someone needs any more info please feel free to ask.

    Please review 98 settings in:;en-us;555038

It may be a good time to move all the desktops to XP..
