  • Why total spend memory is high

    Dear all
I use Windows x64, my programs use not much memory, but I don't know why total spend memory is high.

Please see my picture for more detail.

    Thanks

You could give Sysinternal Process Explorer a try to see if it sheds more light.

Also, use MSCONFIG to see if you can remove some background processes.

What are the actual hadware specs of the computer?

        I don't use WinXP, I use Windows 2003 x64
I have this issue when I open many programs then close them. I think Windows can't release all memory that is not used any more.

Sorry -- misread your original post -- moved back

Again, what are the physical hardware specs?

Are you fully SP'd and patched?
What are the main programs you are running?
                  How is your swapfile configured?

Do you mean this IS the Virtual Machine or is this the physical machine Hosting Virtual Machines?

Could you please elaborate on what is running on this system or VM so we don't spend the next 20 posts guessing. Thanks.

Re: Why total spend memory is high

My server is Virtual Machine, not Hosting Virtual Machines.
                      Windows is 2003 x64 sp2 with patches.

But don't care about it, my question is very simple: why total spend memory in summary windows (Performance tab of Task manager) does not equal to sum memory of threads (Process tab of Task manager) ?

Could we at least stick to one question rather than changing the rules half way through.

I'm sorry that I don't focus on one question
I will consider carefully when I make questions in the future

Are you using Kav 6.4.1212? With that version we had some major buttplugging slowdowns. When we upgraded to .1414 those went away, try that if you haven't.
