  • mapped drives and slow network response

When any client (2000P SP4 or XP SP1) goes and searches the mapped drives by save as, file open, etc... and pulls up the list of all the mapped drives there is a 30 sec wait. This does not happen all the time, but a various time during the day. I've seen this issue before, but can't seem to find info to solve it.

    ideas? ???

Do you have a CD stacker on the network?
    1 1 was a racehorse.
    2 2 was 1 2.
    1 1 1 1 race 1 day,
    2 2 1 1 2

      no stacker... but

No CD stacker, only 3 different servers with network shares and about 30 clients, but a new domain controller. This client took out an old DC that held the global catalog and transfered the role to another DC. Then promoted another DC.

My exchange box produces some strange logs still looking for that old DC, haven't got around to figureing that one out yet. Don't think its related to this problem.

        could be the problem.
also DNS is important. check that.. and are all the roles transfert correctly?

You might want to make sure each PC is not set as a master browser. Sometimes they clash and lead to a slow response time
