  • Images not showing up on secondary RIS 2003 Server

    Hi,

I have a little problem here.

    This is my enviroment:

    -Native 2000 AD
-Secondary Domaincontroller with DHCP and RIS 2000 with 8 existing images.

    Problem:
    RIS works fine.
Now i install a Member Server Windows 2003.
    Then i implement RIS 2003
The default share for images is REMINST, as is on the Windows 2000 Ris Server.
So i copy the content of the RIS 2000 REMINST share to the Windows 2003 RIS share REMINST.

In the properties of the Ris Server 2003 (Computer Object) i see all 8 Images!

Now i boot an IBM netvista in to the new RIS server, it shows me 4 images to install
Secondly i boot a Dell GX280 into the new RIS Server, it shows me noting.
(Warning: There are no images of any OS on this RIS Server Press any key to restart)
For all types of Client Computer i have a sootable Image on the RIS Server.
I googled for a solution, nothing sofar.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

Do you currently have 2 RIS servers on the same subnet ? Because those can not co-exist together.

Also, in the boot menu you will only see images that can be installed on the terget computer: non-ACPI images can not be installed on ACPI-enabled hardware, etc...

Was the previous RIS server presenting ALL 8 images to the same hardware ?

      guyt,

The existing Server (RIS 2000) was configured not to respond to clients.
It is in the same subnet as the newly installed RIS 2003 Member Server.
Which by the way uses DHCP from the old RIS Server.
The previous RIS Server was presenting all 8 Images to all the machines connected.

I assume this is new on RIS 2003?

      Thanks for any reply!

Re: Images not showing up on secondary RIS 2003 Server

Not to steal guys thunder on this one but you are right. 2003 is better than 2000 in the respect that it will only show images that meet the HAL requirements of the requesting client. Stops you selecting an image, it getting so far through the install and then giving you BSOD or something!!!

Thank for the reply, is there a microsoft refferal to this?

I think i might have to check the computer which does not show any images.
(GX280) Also i will connect 2 other harwares to see what shows up!
When done i will post the results here

          Thanks

              Awesome link!!!

You just pushed me in the right direction with this.

              The problem was this:

I connected 2 gx280 machines, the first showed me all the images with the corresponding HAL`s.
The second got an error because there was no quallified HAL sitting among the 8 images because Hyperthreading was turned on in the bios of this particular machine.
RIS then seas a different HAL.
I turned off this feature which solved my problem.
Actually there was no problem with the RIS Server it worked fine.

Case closed thank you both for you help on this!
