  • primary master server crashed

dear sir n gurus, we new to this forum but nice info always gather and help assistance

    v used w2k3 r2 sp2

    basically we have 2 server hacjed0 n hacjed4, where
    primary server was hacjed0
    and secdondary or bdc
so v notice ad and dns not working properly, so we moved all 100% 5 roles and golobal catlog to hacjed4

now we build the new window on hacjed0, then ad, dns installed , then move back to hacjed0 restore return all settings.

but i notice the hacjed0 still not work, why

when we shut down the hacjed4 machine, so we notice hacjed0, ad, dns does not work

can someone suggest where and how best to fix this issue as primary server work well when hacjed4 is up and running, otherwise it never work

    kind regards
    mohd

Repeat after me "There is no such thing as a PDC or BDC in Active Directory, all domain controllers are equal"

I suggest you do not try to re-promote the failed DC, instead:
    1) unpromote it if you can, otherwise seize the FSMOs from it
    2) uninstall DNS
    3) disjoin from domain
    4) Metadata cleanup to remove all traces
    5) rebuild (fresh install of windows) and join to domain with a different name
    6) dcpromo under new name
    7) transfer fsmos if needed

Result should be a clean AD

But some Domain Controllers are more equal than others. Click image for larger version

            Re: primary master server crashed

Please ignore posts 3 & 4 as they are idle banter.

I suggest you do a complete rebuild of your problem DC after cleaning all traces of it from Active Directory. Use a different computer name. See my post #2 for main steps
