  • Restart Server without Admin Rights

    Hi,

    our Admin forget the Adminpassword.

We have: Windows Server 2003 r2 with ADS.
We can login with restricted rights.

    The HowTo
    "reset_domain_admin_password_in_windows_server_200 3_ad"

needs to restard the server. But I can't restart without Admin.
    Any Ideas?
    I searched for hours..

You cannot restart when logged in through remote desktop, or when logged in by console access?
I would then pull the plug.

and before i forget this is exactly the reason why all admins should have an account to login to servers and not solely rely on the administrator account.

            Hi,

There are ways that you can allow restricted users to have shutdown option using GPO.

The another thing you can use iLO if it's configure to do powerresets, you just need to repress the power button to bring the server online.

            our Admin forget the Adminpassword.

Is it domain admin password? or just a custom admin account
If No.. then reset the password with Domain Admin or Enterprise Admin Account

Do you see anything when the power button is pressed (BIOS etc). If so, where do things stop?

Do you hear fans starting but not get a display? If so, check the attached monitor works?

If you do not see ANYTHING at all, nor have fans running, check the PSU

More details of server specs please?

Bit late now, but if you had a UPS configured for a graceful shutdown then you could have pulled the power on the UPS. Once the Sever had shutdown, reconnect mains power to UPS and Server should reboot.

Insert appropriate password recovery CD/DVD and reset password.

Then, make a responsible User a member of the Server Operators Group.

Now for the restart problem, try pulling the power cable out of the Servers PSU and leave disconnected for 15 minutes. Reconnect and then try pressing the Power button.
