  • Namespace problems

Hi, we are using Namespace for a few folder shares

every now and then even if the local server is available the workstation goes off looking for the same folder over the VPN slowing everything down

Is there any way to lock the namespace lookup to the corresponding site only?

    Thanks

    Re: Namespace problems

IIRC there is an option in DFS (certainly in 2008 and probably in 2003) to make a server the first one within the site or the first one overall. Don't know how it would work in your case but worth looking into.

      Re: Namespace problems

On the Referrals tab of the namespace properties, under Ordering method, there is the option to "exclude targets outside of the client's site".

So long as the Active Directory Sites & Services is configured correctly, along with the associated links and the link costs, then that should stop clients from going over the VPN to external sites.
