  • Setting up Windows Image Deployment Server

So I was wondering if anyone has any Experiencing with setting up a WIDS on a 2k8R2 machine...I've tried following guides on the internet and have had something not go the same way they show it on their guide(most of then use 2k8 instead of R2 anyway).

So anyone who could help me get this stupid thing set up finally will be my hero for the month. I've only been trying to get it set up for 2 and a half weeks now.

I'm using it as a CYABackup just in case our Vendors Image Delivery Method fails.

Also: Please move this from 2k/2k3 to 2k8/2k8r2, I totally put it in the wrong place. >_<

Re: Setting up Windows Image Deployment Server

Actually I wanted to play the guessing game.

Well, first I want to add this to an existing domain(Using the AD Domain Services Role), and it tells me I need to run the adprep /forestprep - "To install a domain controller into this Active Directory Forest, you must first prepare the forest using "adprep /forestprep". The adprep utility is available on the windows server 2008 r2 installation media in the \support\tools folder"

Well I have the Adprep tool right here, and when I run it I get the message -
"Adprep cannot run on this platform because it is not an Active Directory domain controller
      [Status\Consequence]
Adprep stopped without making any changes.
      [User Action]
Run Adprep on a Active Directory Domain Controller."

So does this mean I need to add the server to our AD Domain Controllers list to run it and add it?
And if so, what all will happen when I do, and what is required to do it?

I'm an almost total server newb, so forgive me.

Re: Setting up Windows Image Deployment Server

You need to run ADPREP on a DC -- it will add updates to Active Directory
Then you should be OK to re-do the install

This wont bone anything we've set up already with our current AD will it?

Just making sure it wont try to upgrade anything or something we really DON'T need right now.
