Does it have a floppy drive and is it set to be the first boot device?
        1 1 was a racehorse.
        2 2 was 1 2.
        1 1 1 1 race 1 day,
        2 2 1 1 2

The easiest option is to phone Dell directly.

They hold a master password for your machine that will enable you to remove the old one.

this is the best way to do it, sure. but also the most expensive. they dont give away info on the telephone, i have to deliver it for service and in my country this is not for free i can tell i probably put it in the locker and buy me a new one, nothing on the old disk i really need anyway.

                      Re: bios

This is a link to a personal site selling a product to fix the above problem. While the product possibly works, the poster has made no mention of his commercial involvement or indeed, no comment at all except for the link. In this case, I think the link should be removed or a fee paid for advertising this product.

Which link do you mean by that? The link posted by Dell_BIOS or the first two links in your own post?

                        Something about pot and kettle?

Well in that case I'll mention my commercial involvement. Yes it is my site, and yes I make money from it. But two of the sites you posted are charging as well. I have the same info but cheaper. Its not unreasonable to want to make a few dollars off of my research is it? And honestly I dont see a major problem with it considering I'm actually saving people money.

Buy the info elsewhere and they will pay more... bring the laptop to a technician and they will pay WAY more.

However I can respect your position and if you dont want me posting the url thats fine with me. I'm not here to cause trouble, only to help in some small way and make a few bucks in the process.

                            Dell_BIOS,

By looking at almost all of your 7 posts I'm afraid I cannot see anything except stuff that's related to YOUR site, the one you advertised here, the one you make a profit from. I wouldn't have minded that and would have let it be if you had also contributed other good answers, information and insights on some of the posts on these forums. But you haven't.

So for now I suggest you refrain from publishing your own site, and if you really must, send a PM or email to me or one of the mods and ask, we will consider and let you know.
                            Cheers,

Does this not qualify in some way as helping?
