  • Standalone Server 2003 rename apparently not complete

I have a non-domain server 2003 RC2 running WSS3 and several other services. Due to IT policy I had to rename. I successfully resolved problems with Sharepoint (directly related to server rename), and the only thing not working is email notification from Sharepoint to users. The funny (but not ha-ha funny) part is, that there are still many references to the old name all over the place: in registry, in Sharepoint central administration, in Windows internal database...IMO the root of the emailing problem is that when I telnet to SMTP service, I am greeted with old server name instead of new name...
    --220 oldname.something.local Microsoft ESMTP MAIL Service, Version: 6.0.3790.4675 ready at Tue, 15 Jun 2010 13:56:19 +0200--
I imagine since the actual server name and apparent domain of the email service are different, the email never gets through to the recipient?Any ideas?
