  • csvde error importing contact

I for the life of me cannot see what the problem is with this DN in this, yet it won't load. Any one else see why?

    Code:
    objectClass,displayName,dn,mailNickname,targetAddress,proxyAddress,msExchPoliciesExcluded,mail
    contact,Karan Removed,"CN=Karan Removed,OU=Clients,OU=Government,DC=clinlab,DC=local",KaranRemoved,SMTP:[email protected],SMTP:[email protected],{26491CFC-9E50-4857-861B-0CB8DF22B5D7},[email protected]
    Here's the csvde output log.
    Code:
    Connecting to "dc.clinlab.local"
Logging in as current user using SSPI
    Importing directory from file "n:\2.csv"
    Loading entries

Do you need quotes around "Karan Removed" in line 2?

Doh. I edited your post on accident.

I tried doing that before due to the space in the name, but when I do that I get a different error about it expecting a comma.

I end up with something like this... Which I think is a problem because of the quotes within quotes, and the outer quotes are required because of the use of the delimiter within the string.
      Code:
      "CN="Karan Removed",OU=Clients,DC=clinlab,DC=local"
Character 37 is the decimal value of an ascii double quote.
      Code:
      Connecting to "dc.clinlab.local"
Logging in as current user using SSPI
      Importing directory from file "n:\2.csv"
      Loading entries.
Parsing error: expect comma after column 3. Last read character is 37
      Syntax error on line 2
      0 entries modified successfully.

I've also tried wrapping the CN in single quotes... but I end up with the same error about the DN.
      Code:
      "CN='Karan Removed',OU=Clients,DC=clinlab,DC=local"
      Any other ideas?

I actually meant quotes around the first instance of the name:
          contact,Karan Removed,"CN=Karan Removed,OU=Clients,OU=Government,DC=clinlab,DC=loc al",KaranRemoved,SMTP:[email protected], SMTP:[email protected],{26491CFC-9E50-4857-861B-0CB8DF22B5D7},[email protected]

            Here's something totally bizzarro...

            This worked...
            Code:
            objectClass,displayName,DN,mailNickname,targetAddress,proxyAddresses,msExchPoliciesExcluded,mail
            contact,Aaron Adams,"CN=Aaron Adams,OU=Clients,OU=Government,DC=clinlab,DC=local", aadams, SMTP:[email protected],SMTP:[email protected],{26491CFC-9E50-4857-861B-0CB8DF22B5D7},[email protected]

I'll try that just to see.

              Edit...

              Doesn't work.

so it doesnt like the word "removed" (or was it really "Smith")?

Why not try them all and deal with problems as they arise

"Removed" is there because I removed the person's last name. I guess I missed one.

                    Re: csvde error importing contact

I finally got them to load. I removed a bunch of them and pasted them into a new csv files in notepad. I think Excel was malforming it or something. Thanks.

I'm not even exactly sure why it wasn't working because there was nothing wrong.

                      Re: csvde error importing contact

Excel can indeed malformed your CSV file. I usually create a CSV file in Excel and re-read it again in Notepad++.
But wasn't it easier to create a powershell script for it?
