  • Windows Server 200x roles/services

    Hi guys!

I want to write a small script that would be able to monitor a server according to each role it's defined for. For example, if the server is a Domain Controller, the script would monitor for:
    • Server
    • File Replication
    • DNS Client
    • Security Accounts Manager
    • Intersite Messaging
    • Kerberos Key Distribution Center
    • Net Logon

(I'm not 100% sure the list is correct, but you get the idea)
What I want is to ask if anyone can help me with a list of services that define each standard server role; a link would be helpful too. (I've searched but couldn't find anything helpful)

Any help or idea about a different approach would be highly appreciated!

    Thank you very much!

    Re: Windows Server 200x roles/services

I've never thought of this before, but a possibility would be to build a new (virtual) server, dump a list of services and their status, then add roles one at a time and look for changes
You would then need to look into dependencies...

2008 is a lot easier as the server manager shows the relevant services for each role

EDIT -- amazing how helpful can be. This looks as if it could be just the thing:
    (It says registration is needed)
