  • Unable to telnet some ports from wan and lan

    Hi
    Windows server 2003 sp 2
    Workgroup.

I'm trying to reach a server app that works with specific ports but I can't.

    I'm trying to telnet but I can't.

I made a role on the s-box but still problem remains.
I'm able to telnet port 80 and 3389 and can even access with rdp on 3389(there is a roll for that in the s-box).
I've tried to telnet this server from another computer on the lan but accept for port's 3389 and 80 I can't.
I disabled windows fw but still no success.
It's like all the other ports are blocked.
Telnet service is up and running.
I even change the ports on the program to different ones but no luck.
    Any ideas?

Check if the machine is actually listening on the required ports.
Open a cmd and write this for example: netstat -an | find "3389"

What third party AV or firewall solutions are you using?
Also add the server name to "local intranet" in IE security zones on the PCs trying to connect

            Does NOD block any ports?

Do I understand you correctly that the ports you need aren't listening on the server?

i think i'm on the way for a solution.
i ran the netstat -an command and got the list of listening ports.

how do i add my ports to that list?

If the ports aren't there when running netstat then it's the application itself which doesn't work as you expected.
Appearantly the application doesn't open the ports you need.

                          well.
instead of adding ports i got the application to use 2 listening ports which are not in use.
                          now it's o.k
                          thanx for all the help
