  • event 10016 and DCOM

    Hi folks.

I have an event ID of 10016 appearing which seems to point to terminal server users not having permissions in DCOM. Next, I started to review the DCOM configuration so I could see if I needed to grant the application itself permissions within DCOM or if the actual users needed permissions. Before I could drill down I received a DCOM configuration warning pop-up for which I have included a screen-shot at the end.

I would like to know if it is okay to allow the 'recording' to be done which pertains to Acrobat Reader 7.0. Oh and the box in question is a W2K3 SP2 DC/Terminal Server. This DCom issue only seems to apply to the TS users.

    Screen-shot is attached.

    Thanks in advance!

I'll be honest... I've always just clicked yes to that....

      Hi tecamel.

Okay I figured that. The next thing on this is that I have a screen-shot of the specific 10016 error. As I mentioned, it occurs for Terminal Server users.

there's a specific fix for dcom error 10016 - it relates to changing the permissions..

this says it's for XP, but there's an equivalent for 2003..

Well as weird as it sounds, just clicking on allowing the warning in DCOM configuration seems to have solved the original 10016 issue.

On to my next issue which is another topic.

          Thanks tehcamel!

Oops - overly optimistic. I have read through the process as outlined by KB899965 but it is not clear enough. The CLSID appears to be the machine debugger and I am not really sure why the user would need permission to that in DCOM.

            Any thoughts regarding this?

            Thanks.
