  • Windows 2000 Instalation Problem

    Hi can anyone help?

I am trying to install Win 2000 Pro so that I can then use my Windows XP Pro up-grade. However I have two large hard drives (c: 150gb & e: 160gb installed) but I am receiving a hardware error report when doing so. I believe that this is to do with Windows 2000 Pro not recognising drives larger than 125gb or 137gb whichever. Can anyone advise how I should progress, so that I can now get Windows 2000 onto the now formatted c: drive? Please reply ASAP thanks BIGjwm johnmcclean @ blueyonder.co.uk

The limit is 137 gb but there appear to be ways around it
    http://www.largeharddrivesupport.windowsreinstall.com/ (for example)

Note I have not tried these links -- all is at your own risk

Slipstream SP4 onto Windows 2000 and this should overcome the HDD limitation. This assumes your hardware supports 48bit LBA.
      How to slipstream SP4. http://www.petri.com/windows_2000_sp_slipstreaming.htm

        Just a thought
Doesnt the upgrade option just ask for the Win2K media if it cannot find a compliant OS already on the drive?
