  • NT AUTHORITY Running MS Backup

    Hello,
I am trying to understand why a co-worker is running scheduled backups with the user of NT AUTHORITY as the account that runs the backups. Has anybody here used the NT AUTHORITY account to run the backup jobs? Pro or cons?
I have asked why he uses that account and he told me it is a secure account? I myself would have created a non-expiring account that would be a member of the Backup Operators group to run the jobs would also the correct permissions.
    Any thoughts would be great.

what OS ? is it just a scheduled taskl ?
scheduled tasks quite often can be configured to run as ntauthority..
it's just an inbuilt account. I'd also agree with using a proper, named account.. may not always be necessary

Re: NT AUTHORITY Running MS Backup

NT Authority is your local system.

You can run jobs as NT AUTHORITY\System or NT AUTHORITY\Network Service

The System account is a powerful account that has unrestricted access to all local system resources, it's part of the local Administrator group. (Lots of services run as this account)

The Network Service account is more applicable to IIS.
